We are a very popular school for training new teachers. Due to our size and reputation, we are able to offer lots of support and learning opportunities for student teachers, and each year we have a number of trainees placed with us. They sometimes work in pairs in a class, or they may be attached singly to a particular class. They will always be placed with our more experienced teachers, and the class teacher is always responsible for the progress of the children during the placement. We are also committed to playing our part in helping rain the next generation of teachers. Quite a few of our current staff team started here as trainee teachers!
Depending on the nature of the placement (1st Year, 2nd Year, 3rd Year, Post-graduate), students will begin to take increasing amount of responsibility for day-to-day classroom management (always under the ultimate direction of the class teacher). In final placements students will take responsibility for the majority of the learning. Throughout the placements the class teacher will either be in-class at the same time, or available elsewhere in the school.
Having a student is a valuable opportunity for the class teacher to spend more time with particular pupils in the class, and all of the children benefit by having these additional adults working with the class.
Any concerns about a student teacher should be shared confidentially with the class teacher or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
